On Wednesday 19 December, I awarded twelve very talented local sportspeople representing badminton, calisthenics, lacrosse, sailing, skiing, snowboarding, judo, hockey, athletics, gridiron, diving and baseball with a Local Sporting Champions grant.
These recipients were recognised for their outstanding individual efforts in sport and have been chosen from a large field of candidates to represent their team at state, national and international competitions. It takes an enormous commitment of time, money and most importantly hard work to compete at such levels.
The Kooyong Local Sporting Champions Grants program is an Australian Government initiative to provide financial support for young people aged between 12 and 18 who compete, officiate or coach at a state, national or international sporting event.

I was delighted also to recognise three participants in the Federal Government’s 2019 Women Leaders in Sport Program. This program develops the leadership potential of female coaches, officials and administrators.
