$500,000 FOR NEW BASKETBALL COURT IN MONT ALBERT NORTH IN KOOYONG

The Coalition Government is investing $500,000 to support the construction of an additional basketball court for the Koonung Comets Basketball Club.

Since its establishment in 1969 the Club has used the single basketball court at Koonung Secondary College as its home for both training and matches.

The Club, which requires 50 hours of midweek training and 42 court hours for games on Saturdays, has almost 900 members from Mont Albert North and Box Hill North. It has long since outgrown its current base and is currently utilising a total of 7 local venues for training and matches.

This Coalition Government funding will enable the Club to partner with a local secondary school and invest in a much needed additional court in this local area.

The Koonung Comets Basketball Club is a not for profit community club which has been established for 50 years.  The Club has fielded women’s teams for the past 48 years. The Club has experienced a 93% growth in membership over the past 8 years which is why it needs an additional facility.  The Club is based in the City of Whitehorse and participates in the Eastern Districts Basketball Association (EDJBA).

Because of the lack of courts, the Club is unable to run its program efficiently and provide additional programs to increase female participation.

Investments such as this in the Koonung Comets Basketball Club are the dividend of a strong economy and only made possible through sound budget management.
