COALITION DELIVERS $1.5 MILLION TO UPGRADE ICONIC WALMER STREET BRIDGE IN KEW
The iconic Walmer Street Bridge in Kew will be redeveloped thanks to Coalition Government funding of $1.5 million secured under the Community Development Grants Programme.
The Walmer Street Bridge experiences very high pedestrian and cyclist use, with numbers averaging 2200 during each weekday and 2400 on weekends.
Currently, the bridge is narrow and steep. The northern portion of the bridge, in particular, remains in poor condition.
I have advocated for this funding to be delivered so that the popular bridge can be upgraded to ensure the safety of all users and to accommodate current and future local community needs.
The Walmer Street Bridge is a wonderful amenity which benefits our entire community by connecting local areas in Kooyong to other inner Melbourne areas such as Richmond.
The Walmer Street Bridge plays an important role in the regional bicycle network and when upgraded will offer a safer shared path to both pedestrians and cyclists from the local community and beyond.
The Coalition Government is committed to supporting local communities to prosper and grow. Local infrastructure projects such as this are critical to improving local facilities and access for the wider community.
I’m proud to have fought for this project and delivered the funding for my local community and will be delighted when the project is completed as it will enhance our local amenities.
While the Coalition Government is investing in this project, Boroondara Council will manage its delivery.
A strong economy helps the Coalition Government guarantee vital infrastructure that Australians rely on.
