Election as Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party and appointment as Treasurer

Out and About

Date Posted : 24 August 2018

On 24 August, I was humbled to be elected as Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party, a role Julie Bishop served with class and distinction.

I congratulate Scott Morrison on his election as Leader of the Liberal Party and I am honoured to be appointed Treasurer in the Morrison Government.

Prime Minister Morrison and I were sworn into our new roles on 24 August by the Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove at Government House, with Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack and Deputy Leader of the National Party Senator Bridget McKenzie in attendance.

After being sworn in as Treasurer, I called in on the legendary Heather Henderson, daughter of Sir Robert Menzies. The following morning, I also caught up with former Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party and former Treasurer Peter Costello, seeking his advice on how we can continue to grow the economy and build on the millions of jobs created under the Coalition.

I am proud to have served as a Cabinet Minister in the Turnbull Government which achieved so much.
