Kooyong locals now have access to additional mental health support with a new HeadtoHealth clinic now open in Hawthorn.

The HeadtoHelp clinic, one of 15 to open in Victoria, is located at 378 Burwood Road, Hawthorn, and is part of a $26.9 million federal mental health package to support Victorians during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The clinic is a free service which, over the next 12 months, will provide a place within the community for people to access additional mental health care as early and as conveniently as possible.

Federal Member for Kooyong, Treasurer Josh Frydenberg, said the Morrison Government was providing mental health support where and when it is needed.

“There has been a significant increase in demand for mental health services in Victoria and our Government has stepped up to provide more support,” Mr Frydenberg said.

“The 15 HeadtoHelp clinics, like this one in Hawthorn, are staffed by multi-disciplinary teams of mental health professionals. They will provide on-site mental health support, and will also connect to other mental health services in the region, including intensive mental health care or social supports, to ensure people get the help they need when they need it.”

Minister for Health Greg Hunt said, “This is a very difficult time for all Victorians and we know the extended lockdown measures and isolation from family and friends is taking a toll on many people,” Minister Hunt said.

“It’s really important all Victorians know it’s okay to not feel okay, that it is fine to reach out for support, and that effective help is available.”

“It is also critical for all of us to check in and stay on top of our mental health during this difficult time.”

“The new Hawthorn clinic will ensure Kooyong residents will get the support they need to manage their mental health and wellbeing through the pandemic and beyond.”

The HeadtoHelp clinics are being delivered by the Commonwealth Government’s Primary Health Networks (PHNs), which play a critical role in commissioning and integrating health services at a regional level.

The clinics will play a key role in supporting our GPs, emergency departments, and hospitals by providing easily accessible mental health care.

Supporting the mental health and wellbeing of all Australians is a priority of the Morrison Government, with health portfolio expenditure on mental health and suicide prevention services expected to be a record of $5.7 billion in 2020–21.

People concerned about their mental health can visit this clinic in person or call 1800 595 212 to talk to a health professional and connect to a service near them.
