SAFE HAVEN FOR AT-RISK WOMEN IN KOOYONG
- The rooming house upgrade offers more shelter options for women at risk of homelessness
- The upgraded centre is part of the Servants Community Housing
- The Coalition Government fully funded the $300,000 upgrade
Women at risk of homelessness in Kooyong will have better housing support thanks to the opening of an upgraded women’s rooming house.
The upgrade to the Servants Community Housing women’s only house will fill a gap in the local area giving women who are at risk of homelessness more options for a safe place to stay when they need it.
This project was made possible with Federal Government start-up funding of $300,000 which I committed to at the last election.
There is a strong demand for safe, affordable housing for women in this area. This project will play an important long-term role in dealing with clients who are going through tough times.
The upgraded centre will offer seven bedrooms and shelter for at-risk women.
This project is about keeping women off the streets and in a safe place at particularly vulnerable times in their lives.
The project included installing air conditioning, bathroom upgrades, rebuilding the facilities laundry and both interior and external refurbishment.
The Coalition Government is committed to helping community organisations in their important work, with these kind of investments aimed at building a more supportive and cohesive society
