On 30 October, I launched the Strike Out Stroke (SOS) National B.E.F.A.S.T campaign at the Kew Primary School,
Spearheaded by the 2018 Boroondara Citizen of the Year, Vivienne Harkness, SOS has partnered with Softball Australia and is working hard to promote early identification of the signs and symptoms of stroke to B.E.F.A.S.T for treatment.
Stroke is one of Australia’s biggest killers and a leading cause of disability. Stroke kills more women than breast cancer and more men than prostate cancer. One in six people will have a stroke in their lifetime and research indicates that 80 percent of clot strokes are preventable, through a healthy lifestyle. The SOS team’s fundraising efforts will support research into prevention and treatment of stroke and provide support services for the over 475,000 Australians living with stroke and their carers.
